26th June 2008 - Unemployment falls and labour productivity rises
In May, the unemployment rate in Poland fell to 10%, a half a percent drop from April. The current number of unemployed in Poland stands at 1.5m, according to the central statistics office.
The same office also reported a 4.9% rise in Poland's labor productivity year-on-year in the January-May period.
The average employment rate increased by 3.5% in the period in question, while gross wages grew by 11.0%. more »
9th June 2008 - Ernst & Young ranks Poland most attractive destination for foreign investment in Europe
The "European Attractiveness Survey" ranked Poland top in Europe as a potential investment location (18%), ahead of Germany (16%), Russia (12%), France (11%), Romania (10%) and the UK (9%).

2nd June 2008 - EU funds boost Polish economy
During April 2008, EU structural funds totalling almost 700m PLN were paid out to recipients in Poland, according to the Ministry of Regional Development.
In total, almost 25bn PLN (more than 80% of the total) has been paid to Poland from the 2004-2006 structural fund program. more »
29th May 2008 - Central bank of Poland leaves interest rates unchanged
At it's monthly sitting for May, the monetary council of the National Bank of Poland elected to hold official interest rates at their current level of 5.75%. The council is still concerned over possible inflationary pressures in the Polish market (related to energy and food), a worsening relationship between wage growth and productivity, the continued strength of the Polish zloty and a possible future slowdown in GDP growth. For these reasons, the council will keep its bias on the side of further tightening of rates over the course of 2008. more »

According to the Labor Minister Jolanta Fedak, the government is hoping that Poland's unemployment rate will fall below 10% in 2008.

According to Poland's statistics office, the average monthly wage in Poland was 8.9% higher year on year to 2899 PLN in the fourth quarter of 2007.
In quarter on quarter terms, the rise was 7.2%
Over the whole of 2007, the average wage closed at 2691 PLN, 8.6% higher than in 2006.

6th June 2007 - Disposable income for Poles grew by 8.5% in 2006
According to data collected by the Polish government's statistics office, the nominal monthly disposable income for Polish households rose by 8.5% year on year in 2006 to PLN 835 per capita
Average monthly household spending, in turn, amounted to PLN 745 per head, up some 6.8% y/y in real terms.
The structure of household spending shows an increase of expenditure on energy, textiles and footwear, recreation and culture and a decrease of expenses on food and non-alcoholic beverages. more »

According to the website szybko.pl, rents for small apartments are rising in the major Polish cities. More than 1000 PLN per month is now the norm for a one-room (studio) apartment in Warsaw, Krakow and Wroclaw. The rapidly rising purchase prices for real estate in Poland is pricing many Poles out of the market and contributing to a higher number of prospective tenants, hence higher rental prices. more »

Strong economic growth in 2006 (up from 3.5% in 2005 and the highest growth in 9 years) resulted from increased consumer spending and rising exports, with investment spending also a major contributor.
The predicted GDP growth rate of 5.4% in 2007 is to be driven by domestic demand.

15th December 2006 - Poland to get EUR11.2bn in EU subsidies in 2007
The European Parliament has adopted the final draft of the 2007 budget, which will see Poland receive EUR11.2bn in subsidies against a contribution of EUR2.8bn. Up to 40% of the EU's structural funds will go to the new member states in 2007, compared to 23% in 2006. Poland will be the greatest beneficiary of regional funds, and is expected to receive up to 18% of the total pool. more »
